PROPERTY developers should work closely with relevant authorities and municipalities to build more affordable housing projects near transportation hubs.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke (picture) said that such projects, apart from being a practical solution for lower-income commuters, would also encourage and promote the usage of public transportation in the long run.
“Accessibility and connectivity are a lifeline to the growth and success of any township development.”
“The government and the private sector need to work together to ensure that proper integration of public transportation services and conveniences are met,” he said in a statement released in conjunction with the Home Ownership Campaign — Malaysia Property Expo (HOC-Mapex) 2019.
The strategy is also part of the newly introduced National Transport Policy that includes the development of an integrated transportation network by strengthening the country’s transportation system through various transformation programmes and initiatives.
Loke said the transportation and property sectors have a significant role in the nation’s socio-economic development, as well as the well-being of communities.
“Proper housing with access to good public transportation network will promote a vibrant, sustainable and conducive living environment for the people,” he said.
